VILLALOBOS CROWNED BEST YOUNG RIDER AT TOUR OF UTAH
August 13th, 2018
Calling Aevolo’s week at the Larry H. Miller a fairy tale moment is an understatement. From Gage Hecht and Alex Hoehn being voted as fan favorite, to Luis Villalobos’ monumental performances that earned him the biggest achievement of his career, the week proved Aevolo was there to race, and then some.
Villalobos breakthrough ride on the queen stage up to Snowbird Ski Resort catapulted the Mexican 20-year-old into the best young rider jersey and eighth place overall.
“I am very happy because for some time we’ve had Mexicans racing here, but not being with the greats, in the big races,” Villalobos said. “Today, it was a day that felt like a dream for me because of all the work that I have done all year. Today, it was a big day for me and so I’m enjoying that at one of the biggest races here in the United States. My first time at the Tour of Utah, it was wonderful for me, for the team, for the opportunity for everything we have been given, to trust in me today. I hope for better things to come in the future.”
After being voted the fan favorite “best climber,” Alex Hoehn proved the fans right on the final day, moving up three places to finish 17th overall on GC, just ahead of notable BMC rider and Giro d’Italia stage winner, Tejay van Garderen.
“The stage was a really hard one especially with two big climbs throughout the day,” Hoehn said. “I felt good on the final climb and just went as hard as I could to the finish. Being able to be a part of what this team just did is something I will never forget.”
Aevolo will continue its momentum to the four day Colorado Classic, to be held August 16-19.
